Description

It's been a while since I've played a part in a contest, and actually come to submit something for it in the end. This is my entry for the contest found here {[link]} which is based off of the Knight comic, made by Yuumei; a rather talented artist with the amazing ability to amass such emotional unity, through her style and writing, that I felt this might be a good starting point to outline my respect for someone able to care so greatly that they act.

The easiest way of explaining my thoughts of this character to you is as follows:

Name: Tai Li, 太 黎

Gender: Female

Age: 17

A lot of people think that Tai doesn't really care for anything; that she doesn't care whether things stay the same, whether the world moves on and how much is lost through that process. The truth is that whilst she thinks change is inevitable in all forms it does sadden her that it must be so reckless.

To her the best changes are a kind of stable evolution where new things are made and adapted to work with the structures already in place instead of tearing them down and asserting their greed. She is disappointed in people and for a very long time she felt it not worthy of talking about because there wasn't anyone important enough that would readily listen and that no one truly had any hope anymore.

She turned her thoughts backwards, drifting over the thoughts of all those that had gone before. The people who had died watching the decay, those who had been lucky not to see it start in life and then devasted in death when they were made aware. Tai believes in spirits; in the notion that those long deceased live in the wind. Often the girl would sit out when it was dark and listen to the wind and try and talk to them all, to find out what they thought, whether they were disappointed in her like she was disappointed in the world. Tai was never sure if she was doing the right things or not.

Eventually Tai noticed the kites that lit up the sky. For weeks she simply watched them, using them as a medium to talk with the wind and as a focal point for her thoughts. It appeared to her that maybe there was hope in some people. Initially she had thought it a stupid attempt; after all, it was the easiest thing in the world for the less hopeful to ignore. However, the more nights she spent watching them, admitedly out of curiousity to see if they'd ever stop, the more she began to change her mind. It even occured to her she wasn't entirely sure if they were flying for the same cause as she'd first assumed and as her mind continued to think on the possibilities it formed an idea. A week later and she sought out one of the people flying the kites and only then did she find out about the Knights.

Tai didn't start flying immediately, choosing to watch for a time first. Eventually however she wanted to join the silent movement. The kites she uses are ones she made herself, actively choosing an elephant due to their ability to treck miles to find the spots where their ancesters also gathered. Every night she lets the elephants fly, up into the heart of the wind where the ancesters are so that she might talk to them better, let them know of this silent hope that could develop so that the reason for the lasting disappointment might disappear. No one can say that it wasn't making the sky beautiful and Tai is sure, now, that emotions like these will speak louder than words.
